Elf on the Shelf!

Elf on the shelf is something I had been made aware of by my American friends. Something that I would have loved to have done for Ethan but didn’t think he would understand, so as much as I wanted to start family traditions, I decided against.

This year, after learning that visual clues are very important to Ethan, I requested an elf from Santa!

Last night I put the Elf’s box and Ethan’s advent calendar on the sofa all ready for when Ethan woke up this morning.

For those of you that don’t know, the story behind elf on the shelf is that Santa sends them to watch over your children and they report back to the North Pole every night to tell him if your children have been naughty or nice. They appear each morning in a different place and the children have to find him, a little game of hide and seek.

I don’t think Ethan will have any understanding of the meaning behind the elf and his visit to our house, but I’m hoping that when Ethan sees the elf next year he will connect him with the fact that Christmas is on it’s way.

So this morning Ethan opened his elf package and we read the story together.

Darren had the honour of naming the elf and decided to call him Ralph!

Elf on the Shelf
Today Ralph has been watching the comings and goings from the TV shelf, I wonder where he will be tomorrow!
