Word Of The Week – Firsts

Our word of the week this week is

Firsts

There have been quite a few firsts for all of us this week, and it feels like it has been the longest week ever!

Ethan had his first day of school, and we are coming to the end of his first week. I’m so glad for the weekend and I haven’t said that for a long time!

We feel like Ethan is enjoying school but the school bus has been a very traumatic experience for us all. On Monday there was kicking, screaming and lots of shouting ‘NO’. Darren had to place him in the bus by picking him up and the best thing for me to do was walk away. It was heartbreaking. Yesterday was calmer, he is still resisting getting on the bus but there was no screaming. I’m worried that the break of the weekend will make Monday morning bad again, but only time will tell.

Ethan also had his first swimming lesson with a swimming club that suits his ability this week. This was also a new experience for him as it was the first time he swam without us. This did cause some distress and we are worried about how his next lesson will go now that he knows what to expect. Ethan has really been pushed out of his comfort zone this week.

Little E has also had firsts this week as we get used to a new routine. On Monday we started a Sing and Sign group together and yesterday we enjoyed our first mother and baby swimming lesson. I am really enjoying having some one to one time with her.

It really has been a week of firsts for us all, and a week full of emotional highs and lows!

  1. That must be so hard, but you are doing the right things I’m sure. Time will help, but yes, the break in routine might always be a tricky one to negotiate perhaps. And yay to the firsts with Little E x

We do feel like we are doing a bit of tough love with Ethan at the moment. I hate it but I know it’s easier to do this now and not in a few years time when he will be in to his routine even more x

  2. A big week in your home all round then. I’m glad Ethan’s enjoying school, and really hope he adjusts to the bus soon. Must be lovely to have some time with Little E, too, special mummy daughter moments. Thanks for sharing with #WotW x

I think it will take a while to get used to the bus. I am really enjoying my time with Little E, we are getting out and about quite a bit now x

  3. I worried about my son taking the bus to school and took him myself for a while. One day his teacher asked if I still wanted his bus place as it wouldn’t be held for us much longer. I told her all about how he must go on last, how he hates waiting to set off and so on.
She looked at me and said “He’s fine when we take the bus for trips out..”
Ethan will be fine and it’ll become an everyday part of his routine 🙂

Don’t they always make us out to be liars! We debated the bus but decided it would be better to start as we mean to go on. We have no idea where Little E will be going to school and I won’t be able to be at two places at once. Getting him adjusted at five is hard but it would be much harder at eight x

The first day was terrible, it is getting easier but it is hard. I’m having lots of fun with Little E x
