Word Of The Week – Exhausted!

I missed out last week’s word of the week but to be honest it would be the same as this weeks. That is because we are

Exhausted

We are now into week two of Ethan’s summer holidays and he is well and truly thrown out by the lack of his routine. He is refusing to eat lunch or dinner and we are having to make sure he has something by giving him different snacks. He is also sleeping less than he normally would.  We are used to having disturbed nights but he is waking up earlier. Ethan is now waking up from 10.30pm so we have a whole night trying to battle with sleep.

We have also had some spectacular meltdowns, something upset him on his respite day and I had him hanging onto my neck for over an hour. Little E is also picking up on these moods which results in both children crying and screaming at the same time.

Ethan is also very restless at the moment so we are keeping him busy by taking him out and about each day. This year he is able to use some words to hint at what he might like to do, soft play being one of them. We were lucky on Monday afternoon as the soft play was very quiet and Ethan was able to enjoy a few hours there.

We are very lucky this year that we have two respite days a week during the holidays. This also meant that we were able to have an adult only trip to the cinema this week.

So we are even more exhausted than we would normally be at the moment. Hopefully Ethan is enjoying his days with us, even if they are out of the routine that he likes.

  1. Oh no, you had anticipated this, hadn’t you? The lack of sleep just makes everything harder to deal with and of course Ethan will be tired himself, won’t he? Glad you’ve got your respite days and are making the most of those and I hope Ethan settles soon and you can all enjoy the break x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

I wish Ethan was tired but he is always on the go. I could say it is a little easier than last year as we have more respite days and Ethan has more words. He is just on the go all the time. Thank you for hosting x

  2. I’m sure he is enjoying the time with you, he’s just very out of sorts. Sir has been up with the lark.. before the lark on some days.. ever since the holidays started. Fortunately he’s not so reliant on routine so he’s happy to potter about the house, play in the garden and so on. Good luck for the rest of the holidays, and I hope he settles down x

Thank you. We always thought that Ethan wasn’t really a routine boy, then he started school and he loves the routine. I’m feeling we might need a holiday after the six weeks are over!

  3. Glad to hear you are having a couple of respite days and that Ethan enjoyed the soft play – I can imagine it must be incredibly exhausting with the disturbed nights, struggling with the change in routine and getting Ethan to eat – hope that next week will be an easier one for you all x

Thank you. Ethan is calming down a little now but the sleeping and eating are still a big issue. Sleep will always be but hopefully when school returns he will eat a bit more x

  4. Mummy here and there

Oh you poor thing sleep makes everything ten times worst! I hope it eases for you and must be relief for you to have respite as i bet very draining. Glad soft play was good and hope this week gets little more bearable for you X #wotw

Thank you. The respite days are so important to us all. We are so lucky that we have access to them x

Not having a routine is causing havoc on my son as well. Our sleeping time is always different hence we wake up in erratic schedules too. This is mostly my fault I should have given him some schedule of sorts to make this holiday more enjoyable without sacrificing our sleeping and day patterns. #wotw

I think it’s so hard to give them a routine as you want them to rest and enjoy the holiday too. I’m sure just before they return to school we will be in full swing x

  6. Oh dear, sounds like you are all having a rough time at the moment, exhaustion and lack of sleep always makes everything that little harder to cope with, sending hugs. I hope you all have a better week ahead. #WotW

Thank you. Ethan always finds the holidays had but you’re right the lack of sleep can always make things harder x
