Children’s Books, Christmas Gifts Which Last a Life-Time

Growing up my brother was the reader of the family. I always remember him reading anything and everything, from cereal packets to newspapers. To me reading wasn’t something that I enjoyed, it was a life skill that had to be learned. Then one of my primary school teachers introduced me to Roald Dahl, The Twits and this was the turning point. I wanted to read more books by Roald Dahl and that is what I did. I read George’s Marvellous Medicine, The Witches, Matilda and many more. My absolute favorite had to be the BFG. A truly magical story of giants, dreams and a little girl called Sophie. In-fact Roald Dahl books has such an impact on me I have saved my copies of the books in the hope that I can read his stories to my children in the future.

Penguin Random House Children’s Books sent us a lovely package in the post. It contained three books so that we could pass on stories for life to our children.

The package contained The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas, The Little Elephant Who Wants To Fall Asleep and Max and Bird.

I have decided to wrap up two of the books and put them in the Children’s stockings for Christmas. As Ethan is starting to show signs that he is starting to read I’m going to give him Max and Bird. It’s a book about friendship, but an unconventional one between a cat and a bird. Max thinks that his new friend might also make a tasty snack! I think he might have a few things to learn about friendship. This book will fit Ethan well as it has nice big text and not that many words, perfect for the start of his reading journey.

I’m going to give Little E The Little Elephant Who Wants To Fall Asleep, this is a book we will read to her before bedtime. It’s written by the author who wrote the book that parents are raving about, The Rabbit Who Wants to Fall Asleep. It’s meant to help children go to sleep at night and as she will be getting her own little bed soon we might need the help. If it works on her it would be interesting to see if this book can also help Ethan with his sleep issues.

I’m going to give the children The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas before Christmas to help them get into the Christmas spirit. Both of my children love dinosaur’s and I actually spotted Ethan looking at this book when we visited a bookshop at the weekend. This book is written by Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter and I’m interested to see what their children’s books are like.

I love that books can transport you into a different world and help to spark your imagination and that some books can really become stories for life.
