Daddy’s Rice Krispie Cakes

Since being at home with Ethan full time I decided that I would try to make something in the kitchen with him once a week in the hope that I would to engage him for more than a few seconds at a time. This has also been brought about by the fact that I have started to buy Make & Bake With Peppa Pig, so far we have only made the cakes from issue one which is yet to be blogged about but if you have liked our facebook page you would have seen Ethan’s chocolate smeared face from that day of baking!

Last week I decided that we would make some rice krispie cakes for Darren to take to work with him. I used to make these all the time when I was on maternity leave for Darren and we had some rice krispies going spare so I thought it would be something nice and easy to do.

I started as normal by laying everything out on the table for Ethan to see, we add smarties into our cakes and Ethan liked the noise that the packets made with the smarties inside them.

I then opened the chocolate to start to melt it, I don’t think Ethan could believe his eyes it was the biggest bar of chocolate he had ever seen! Ethan snatched the bar from me and took a few bites just to check everything was in order, I have no idea who he takes after…

It was a little bit of a fight to get it back off of him.

With Ethan safely out of the way I melted the chocolate but as I’m a little bit rusty I used our glass mixing bowl (casserole dish) to do this without thinking how hot it would get so we had to do the mixing in our jug. Next time I will remember to melt the chocolate in the jug so we can mix in the bigger bowl.

Ethan loved this part as he kept eating all the chocolate rice krispies.

Ethan wasn’t so sure about the smarties when we added them. I bravely let Ethan try one but he put it in his mouth and either didn’t like the feel of it or didn’t understand what to do to eat it so he promptly took it back out again.

Ethan made sure every last rice krispie was eaten when I had finished placing the mixture into the cake cases.

I think Ethan really enjoyed this activity even though it was all about the eating for him. He stayed at the table the whole time with me whilst I made them which is a very positive step.

I did end up with a very messy boy again!

  1. What a great blog – thank you for linking up to PoCoLo, it really is a great way to read new posts and meet new bloggers. I love Rice Krispie cakes but never thought of adding smarties before – I’m going to have to try that one! Ethan is a real cutie. Thanks again, and welcome 🙂 x
