Schwartz Grill Mates Product Review

After taking part in the What’s For Dinner Tonight challenge we were asked if we would like to try the Schwartz Grill Mates range. As we are always looking for ways to encourage Ethan to eat a wider range of food we were happy to sample them.

Schwartz Grill Mates are perfect for the BBQ but can be used all year round from the comfort of your kitchen, this is how we got on.

Mojito Lime Marinade Mix

The ingredients on the suggested recipe require the marinade mix, 50ml of oil, 50ml of white rum, 2 tbs of white wine vinegar and 900g of chicken, beef or king prawns.

We opted to try the other suggestion on the packet, making a honey lime marinade. We combined the sachet contents with 50ml of oil, 50ml of lime juice and 2 tbs of honey.

We left the chicken to marinate and then cooked it in the oven.

Our Verdict: This marinade made the chicken taste fantastic. It gave it such a refreshing taste and made a really nice change. It also kept the chicken nice and tender when cooking. Ethan ate this dinner quite happily without making any fuss. We love this marinade and have already purchased it on a few occasions to brighten up a chicken dinner.

Deep South Brown Sugar Marinade Mix

To make this marinade you will require the sachet contents, 50ml of oil, 2 tbs of orange juice, 2 tbs of white wine vinegar and 900g of beef, chicken or pork.

We decided to try this marinade on steaks, and as it was going to be a lovely weekend we purchased a disposable BBQ. This was quite a milestone for us as our BBQ cooking is normally limited to beef burgers and sausages.

I combined all of the ingredients and left the meat to marinade whilst Darren started our little BBQ.

Unfortunately the disposable BBQ gave up the ghost halfway through cooking, I don’t think it could cope with our new adventurous menu, and we have to finish the dinner in the oven.

Our Verdict: I’m not a lover of steak as I have never found one, or have been able to cook one, that tastes as nice as the steaks I have had in America. I’m also not a very big red meat eater and it would be one of the last things added to my shopping list so I wasn’t looking forward to this meal, but I have to say this marinade changed my mind. It made the steak taste lovely and very moreish. With this marinade I would happily have this dinner more often, which is fantastic news for my red meat intake. Unfortunately Ethan didn’t try this as we knew he wouldn’t eat it so he had a different dinner to us that night.

Smokey Texan Marinade Mix

The ingredients on the suggested recipe require the marinade mix, 50ml of oil, 75ml of water and 900g of beef, chicken or pork.

We opted to try the other suggestion on the packet, Smokey BBQ Rib Sauce. We combined the sachet contents with 125ml of ketchup and 75ml of honey.

The ribs were placed in the oven to cook…

…and the sauce was brushed over the meat for the last ten minutes of cooking.

Our Verdict: I never got to try these as we cooked them on the same day as the steak and I was full, so it was left to Darren to do the tasting. He really enjoyed them but he said he would like to try this sauce on chicken so that is what we will be doing next time.

Cajun Marinade Mix

The ingredients on the suggested recipe require the marinade mix, 50ml of oil, 75ml of water and 900g of beef, chicken, or pork.

We opted to try the other suggestion on the packet, making a cajun citrus marinade. We combined the sachet contents with 2 tbs of both oil and lemon juice and 1 tbs of honey.

We left the chicken to marinate and then cooked it in the oven.

Our Verdict: I actually ended up leaving the chicken in the oven for longer than intended, hence the well cooked look! Despite that the chicken was lovely, I’m really enjoying using honey in cooking at the moment. This is another one added to our must cook again list. Ethan loved this chicken, he really does love his spicy dishes.

We really enjoying sampling all of the Schwartz products, and they have opened up a new world of cooking for us. We have also been sent Schwartz Perfect Shake samples to try, a post of the review will be on the blog soon.
