South Pacific Bathtime

Ethan’s bath time, bedtime routine is normally done by Darren. This has always been Darren’s time to bond with Ethan because I do feel dad’s miss out on so much. Also Ethan likes the time with his Daddy and it messes up his routine if I do it.

Sometimes its best for Ethan to have a bath earlier in the day which means Ethna has no choice but to put up with me.

When it comes to washing hair Ethan isn’t a fan, he hates the soap getting in his eyes so we try to do it as quick as possible.

Now for some reason I have always sung to make Ethan aware of what we are doing, for example ‘This is the way we wash our face’ as we wash his face. So when it comes to his hair to me the right song to sing is ‘I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair’ from the film South Pacific, I have no idea why it just feels right to me.

Recently Ethan has squealed with delight as I have done this and has started to face me to look at me. This is helping as he is keeping his head back at the same time. With his squealing also comes an excited scream and he has also wanted to give me a cuddle, make our heads touch, this is such a magic moment to share and one I hope lasts for a little while yet.

  1. For the past 4 years, bath time is daddy time in our house too. But before that, when I only had Ron and I was in charge of bath-time, he hated washing his hair. He didn’t (and still doesn’t) like water particularly and washing his hair was always a problem. So I used to sing to him too!
Glad you got this magical moment and that washing his hair is getting better! x
