A Magical Christmas at Enchanted Audley End

A Magical Christmas at Enchanted Audley End

Being an autism household we have had to learn to use visuals for preparation. Christmas is no different and we spend lots of time spotting Christmas lights. Ethan loves them and it is a very exciting game. This year English Heritage have created enchanting garden trails with lights, music, and sound to transport you into a magical wonderland. English Heritage sent us an invitation to Audley End House and Gardens to experience Enchanted Audley End. We knew the children would love the lights and we couldn’t wait to visit.

Enchanted Audley End

The gardens at Audley End House in Saffron Walden, Essex, has undergone a transformation for the Enchanted Audley End event. The decadent Jacobean mansion is one of six English Heritage properties taking part in its ‘Enchanted’ season of illuminated outdoor events which are happening at palaces, houses and castles across the country from Friday 15th – Saturday 23rd December. Audley’s unique and varied history has been the inspiration for this event. Transforming the gardens spectacularly into an illuminated world through light trails and projections.

Our Visit To Enchanted Audley End

We arrived at Audley End House just after 4.30pm, by then the sun had set and it was dark enough to be able to enjoy the lights of Enchanted Audley End. Fully decorated with fairy lights and illuminated trees this beautiful trail takes you through the gardens and along the river. There are chandeliers hanging from trees and my daughters favorite part, a talking tree.

We took an hour to make our way around the trail. There is no time limit on how long you have to enjoy the Enchanted Audley End trail. The lights, sounds, and projections create a truly magical experience for all ages.

As it had been snowing and raining the week before our visit we were prepared our feet by wearing our wellington boots. Some parts of the trail where a little muddy but walkways have been placed on the grass areas. You also keep to the paths for the majority of the trail.

The children really did enjoy their enchanted walk and had lots of fun looking at all of the lights. We loved how the enchanted trail was created, the attention to detail was amazing.

At the end of the trail, there is a chance to enjoy mulled wine and mince pies. Much to the children’s delight, there was also traditional fairground rides to enjoy. Make sure you have your spare change ready as these rides are always a hit with younger visitors.
