Joey is based on a much-loved real aeroplane. G-JOEY flew between the British Channel Islands, France and the south coast of England for 40 years. This book follows the story of the little yellow aeroplane who is told he is no longer fit to fly.

With Joey retired to a play barn, Brick, a kind and trustworthy kiln, finds him and befriends him. Brick knows of fairies who make magic, the Pouque Fairies. The 12 Pouque Fairies, each ‘larger than a moment, but smaller than a thought’, live at The Fairy Ring on the southwest coast. Brick believes that their magic might just make it possible for Joey to fly again.

G-JOEY the aeroplane has long been in the hearts of people living in the Channel Islands and the south coast of England. There was always a special excitement either flying in Joey or seeing him fly overhead. When, after 40 years of flying, Joey was taken out of serive, I and many others like me, felt a pang if sadness. We had lost something small but integral to our lives. I felt that Joey could and should have another life, be re-invented, not just for those who knew him in the Channel Islands, but for children everywhere.
