Colchester Zoo Stand Tall Farewell Tour

Last week the Stand Tall Giraffes returned to Colchester Zoo before they made their way to London and ready for their auction. We had already visited as many as possible in town, but we wanted to see the the others that we had missed.  Unfortunately we had left this until Sunday, the last day of the tour, and the weather decided to take a turn for the worst the minute we left our house.  When we arrived at the Zoo we waited for a break in the weather before leaving the car and making our way to see the giraffes. If felt like everybody in the world wanted to visit the…

    A Day Out With Thomas

Last weekend we were very lucky that Ethan’s Nana and Pappy took us to see Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends at the East Anglian Railway Museum. The day started with a bit of a queue to get into the museum as everyone was buying tickets to enter. Ethan doesn’t like queueing and Nana has already purchased tickets online, but there were no signs to say they you didn’t have to queue if you had pre-purchased tickets. The waiting caused Ethan to get a little distressed as he doesn’t understand the concept of queueing, this is an autistic trait and one that some places are starting to accommodate. Unfortunately…

    Great Notley Discovery Centre

The sun definitely came out to play this weekend and we have spent most of the time outdoors. Darren even got to cook us dinner on a disposable BBQ yesterday, something he really enjoys doing.    This morning we met up with friends to have a picnic lunch. We did have to have a change of plan as we were meant to meet at Hylands Park in Chelmsford, but today they were holding the Race for Life, so we decided to meet at Great Notley Discovery Centre Park. This is somewhere we have wanted to visit for a while with Ethan but just haven’t had a spare weekend.     Great Notley Discovery Centre…

    Cabbage Patch Kids 30th Anniversary

Can you believe the Cabbage Patch Kids celebrate their 30th anniversary this year. They were introduced to the mass market for the first time in the US in 1983 by Xavier Roberts. Over 125 million Cabbage Patch Kids have been “born” all over the world in the past 30 years, an average of 8 babies born every minute! To help them celebrate we were invited to an exclusive Birthday Party held at Hamleys yesterday morning. So I dug out my Cabbage Patch doll, who also turns 30 this year, and we headed into London. We decided that the best way to travel into the city was to do half of…

    Giraffe Chasing!

This morning we took Ethan into Colchester to start the Stand Tall Trail. What is Stand Tall I hear you ask? Well as part of their 50th birthday celebrations Colchester Zoo have placed one 7.5 metre high, twenty nine 2.5 metre high and eighty 1.3 meter high giraffes around Colchester’s streets, parks and open spaces, as well as other locations around Essex. They have created the Stand Tall app so that you can search for the giraffe’s and scan their QR codes as you find them. At the end of the summer the giraffe’s will be auctioned off to raise money for charity. There are two types of giraffe to…
