Parents Evening October 2015

I wasn’t expecting a parents evening so soon into the school year but I think it’s also a chance for the new parents to meet the teacher and make sure their children have settled in OK. So last week we were booked in to have a chat with Ethan’s teacher.

There wasn’t too much to report that had changed from his last parents evening except for the change in his speech. Ethan has been able to transfer his use of ‘What is it?’ into the classroom. He is very interested in the signs around the school and his teacher has even been able to add another question into the mix, ‘What does it say?’.

Ethan likes to take his teacher for a walk around the school to discover all the signs and what they say. It is becoming a little bit of an obsession for him and she is going to have to limit his trips around the school to one a day.

The positive thing about Ethan’s obsession with signs is that we all believe he is teaching himself to sight-read. This is something that they are going to continue to work on as reading is such an important life skill for Ethan’s future.

A few days later we also had a meeting with Ethan’s teacher about his Education Health Care Plan as this is what is replacing the statements. Again it was all very positive progress. We know that Ethan is delayed and he has a long way to go before he is anywhere near his mainstream peers but it’s lovely to hear such positive reports. It really helps to give us hope for Ethan’s future potential.

His school has been a very positive experience from the start. I’m so glad as it was something we were so nervous about x

  1. It sounds like he is doing really well, getting there in his own time. Love that he’s enjoying all the signs. My dad was always amused by the fact that schools tend to be places that have a lot of the ‘this door must be kept closed at all times’ signs. My dad has always felt that doors that must be kept closed at all times were not suited to being doors & would have been happier as walls. I realise I have gone off on a bit of a tangent! #SSAmazingAchievements

  2. That’s really good news, all positive progress and it sounds like he’s settled in really well and enjoying his school time. Must be a huge relief (an understatement, I know).
Thanks for linking up 🙂 #SSAmazingAchievements
