Little E has wanted her own robot for ages but I have never seen one that I thought would be suitable for her age. We were asked if she would like to review Novie, an interactive smart robot. He has hand gesture control which I thought would be perfect for Little E’s age. He can follow your commands and learn to do tricks.

Meet Novie
Novie is an interactive smart robot, he can follow your commands and learn tricks. As soon as you unbox Novie he is ready to play. He can learn 12 tricks and perform over 75 different actions. Novie has three different learning modes, beginner, intermediate, and advanced. He also has a free play mode. Novie’s tricks and actions will also improve with practice.
Free Play Mode
When you turn Novie on he will be in free play mode. In this mode, Novie follows your hand and makes lots of noises.
Beginner Mode
Press the Mode button on the top of Novie’s head once to make his eyes turn blue. This means he is now in beginner mode. In this mode, you only have to do the correct hand gestures once for Novie to learn the trick. In beginner mode, the following tricks can be performed
- Spinout
- Wheelie
- Robo Walk
- Wacko Walk
Intermediate Mode
Press the Mode button on the top of Novie’s head twice to make his eyes turn green. This means he is now in intermediate mode. In intermediate mode, the following tricks can be performed
- Donut Peel Out
- Dragster
- Dance Session
- Rock Out
Advanced Mode

- Berzerk
- Spin & Puke
- Lowrider Hop
- Fartnado
The hand gestures to perform these tricks are shown in the supplied instruction manual and quick start guide. In our below video you can see us teaching some of these tricks to Novie.

What Does Little E Love About Novie?
As soon as Little E got Novie out of the box she was in love with him. We hadn’t even worked out any of the tricks he was just in free play mode and she was having lots of fun.
With my help, she could easily get Novie to perform his tricks. Her favourite trick was the wheelie. I lost count of the number of times she made him do this maneuver.
Little E loves all of Novie’s noises and gestures and she couldn’t wait to introduce him to her brother. They both had lots of fun playing with this little robot together.
What Do I Love About Novie?
I love that as soon as you take Novie out of the box he is ready to play. You don’t need to worry about teaching him any tricks first, he is quite happy to chase your hand around. This is perfect for younger children who just want to play.
The three modes are also great for children of different ages and abilities. Little E can easily remember how to make Novie do a wheelie for her but she can’t remember how to make any of the advanced mode tricks.
I did wonder if Novie would be able to work on the carpet or if we would only be able to play with him on the table. We have had no problem with his movement on our front room carpet. He might struggle on a carpet with a thicker pile but we didn’t experience any issues with his movement.
Novie does come with one warning and that is the possibility of hair entanglement. This is because of his wheels. I made sure Little E’s hair was tied back and out of the way.
I think Novie is a great little toy and isn’t that expensive to buy. We already have three birthday party invitations for next month and I will be getting our school friends their own Novie’s.
