Welcome to Our Little Escapades, thank you for visiting our little corner of the internet. A place where we capture our family memories and share our journey of living with autism.
I’m Jane, a married mum of two. I met my husband Darren when I was 26 and informed him right away that if he wanted to marry me it would have to be at Walt Disney World! A dream I had perused since my first visit to Florida when I was 16 years old.
In 2008 I was able to cross getting married at Walt Disney World off of my Disney bucket list. We had our Fairy Tale Wedding at Disney’s Wedding Pavilion. Followed by a reception at Disney’s Grand Floridian and a dessert party at EPCOT.
We welcomed Ethan into the world in May 2010. It wasn’t until after Ethan’s two-year check that we
Ethan’s autism brings with it developmental delays. He is pre-verbal and communicates in some form with us. He struggles with understanding.
Ethan has a fantastic personality and loves to smile and laugh. He loves water, swimming, bubbles and thrill rides. He is also a whizz on the iPad and has taught himself how to use any apps we have downloaded for him.
Our journey with Ethan is not the one we expected. It is full of ups and downs. I was once told…
“Autism is different not less, different can be awesome too”
Little E completed our family in July 2014. We debated having a second child for quite a while but she was the best gift we could ever give to Ethan. He loves having a sibling and when she was born he started to gain more words.
Little E is so independent and always has been. She learnt to run around with her brother before she could walk!
She has embraced my love of Disney and by the age of three had already visited Walt Disney World, Disneyland Paris and sailed on a Disney Cruise. She is also obsessed with cats and Marie and Figaro are among her
She adores her big brother and they have a great relationship. I hope they always have this special bond.
Darren is my rock. He works hard and embraces all of my Disney dreams. Our first holiday together was to Walt Disney World to get married. He does a lot to support Ethan and he hopes that one day he will be able to have a full nights sleep.
Our Little Escapades documents our family life this includes autism, days out, family holidays, the children’s milestones and achievements and everything else in-between.
