We were asked if we would like to review the book Hedgehogs Don’t Live in the City! The second book in the series for Lucy Reynolds and Jenna Herman. Their first book Parrots Don’t Live in the City! received great acclaim.

This book contains beautiful illustrations that are hand-drawn . Featuring delightful rhyming verse this book will easily appeal to young readers aged between 2-6.

Containing enchanting detail within the illustrations. Its aim is to encourage hide-and-seek exploration through the story. The authors hope to inspire a love of the natural world through the charming narrative tale and gentle emphasis on leaf, seed and insect identification.

Written with input from the British Hedgehog Preservation Society. Hedgehogs Don’t Live in the City! is also supported by their Patron Ben Fogle. This book comes at a time when the hedgehog is rapidly disappearing. Campaigners are working hard to make the incorporation of hedgehog highways compulsory in all new building developments.

What I Love About Hedgehogs Don’t Live In The City!

I love the autumnal colours used in this book. Seeing them against the dull colours of the city really helps you appreciate the beauty of nature. This book includes some great talking points for you and your children. There is a nature trail to follow at the start of the book. This includes lots of little creatures living in our gardens.

At the end of the book there are some great informative hedgehog facts. There is also two pages of advice on how we can help hedgehogs. Working together we can hopefully stop their numbers declining.
