Staying In A Thomas & Friends Themed Room At The Drayton Manor Hotel

When we visited Drayton Manor during the Easter Holidays I booked a family room at the Drayton Manor hotel. This time we decided to surprise the children by booking a Thomas & Friends themed room. They didn’t know about the room until we entered it.

What Makes A Thomas & Friends Themed Room Special?

Arriving at the Thomas and Friends section of the hotel you will find a carpet with train tracks. This Thomas the Tank Engine themed carpet also contains other train-related details as well as the tracks.

The carpet continues into your hotel room.

There is a special Thomas & Friends themed area in the room for the children. This isn’t in a separate area from the adults sleeping area like in the Legoland Hotels. Our Thomas area was around a corner of the main bed area.

This part of the room contains the Thomas the Tank Engine themed bunk beds. Staying in bunk beds is new to us. The top bunk did feel like it was quite high. The children loved the Thomas detail. Little E slept in the top bunk. She just needed Darren’s support to go down the ladder. Ethan’s sleep issues would have made the top bunk a dangerous option for him.

The bunk beds also contain a special treat for the children. Each bunk has its very own DVD player builtin.

Ethan thought the DVDs in the beds were amazing. He did make sure they were turned off before it was time to go to sleep!

You can borrow DVDs from the reception at check-in. There is a £10 fee if the DVDs are not returned on departure.

There are also hand-painted murals in the Thomas area of the room. We were able to spot lots of Thomas’s friends, including Percy and Harold the helicopter.

Like the other rooms in the hotel, the Thomas & Friends themed rooms also offer you a full English breakfast, a hairdryer, an iron with ironing board, a mini-fridge, a laptop safe, complimentary parking, air conditioning, and complimentary wireless internet access as standard.

This room didn’t have blackout curtains, instead, our windows had blinds. I did worry if this would cause an issue as I find blinds can sometimes let light in. We had no problems with these blinds and apart from the normal bed-hopping that Ethan does, we all slept well. Little E had no issues with being on the top bunk at all.

I made a room tour video of our room which you can watch below…

Thomas & Friends Themed Room Extras

You get a few extras when staying in one of the themed rooms. On Saturday and Sunday mornings and during Staffordshire school holidays you will be invited to a Character Breakfast which includes a visit from one of the Drayton Manor Park characters.

If staying in a standard room the character breakfast can be added to your reservation for an extra cost. This is dependent on availability.

Each child also receives a complimentary Thomas & Friends themed goody bag on check-in. The children’s goody bags contained the following Thomas and Friends items

  • Baseball cap
  • Toothbrush
  • Door hanger
  • A Thomas Land postcard
  • An activity and colouring book

Our Stay In A Thomas & Friends Themed Room

The children absolutely loved staying in a Thomas room. Ethan loved the DVD players and being able to watch Thomas and Friends shows. For convenience, we decided to eat in the onsite restaurant again, Parklands. Little E loved the character breakfast and we loved that she joined in with the activities. I’m so glad that we surprised them with a Thomas and Friends themed room.
