We often pass Colchester Zoo on our travels but in our adult lives, we had never visited Colchester zoo. We decided that we would visit the zoo for Ethan’s first birthday treat. This would be our first official day out as a family. At one Ethan hadn’t reached his walking milestone. He had only just learned how to sit up on his own. This meant he spent most of this visit in his buggy.
Our First Visit To Colchester Zoo
The first animal we said hello to was this beautiful macaw.
This monkey was very eager to say hello to Ethan. I would love to know what secrets he was telling him!
After this encounter Ethan promptly fell asleep, it must have been all the excitement!
Whilst Ethan slept we had fun taking photos with lots of different animals. Well the animal statues!
With Ethan awake, we started to show him all the different animals in the zoo. They weren’t really grabbing his attention. With Ethan’s love of water, we decided to visit all of the animals who also love water.
We decided as a treat we would eat in Colchester Zoo’s restaurant. This was very brave for us as we never went out without food prepared for Ethan. We really enjoyed our lunch at the zoo restaurant. There was a curry on the menu which we both decided to try. Ethan had a jacket potato for his lunch.
With full tummies, it was time to head over to see the elephants, giraffes, and rhinos. At certain times of the day, you can feed the elephants and giraffes. This was something we really wanted to do.
Unfortunately, the weather turned very cold and there was quite a wait for the next feeding time. We decided to call it a day after letting Ethan have his photo taken with the copper elephants.
Colchester Zoo is a lovely place and we really enjoyed Ethan’s first birthday treat there. We are already planning a future visit. Money permitting would love to become pass holders in the future.
Colchester Zoo is home to so many animals it was so much fun spotting them all. I have shared our photos of the animals we spotted below.
