Last Bank Holiday weekend we were selected by Morrisons and BritMums to take part in their #MorrisonsMum Challenge. We were sent vouchers to put towards our Morrisons shop to celebrate the Bank Holiday, and as this is so close to Ethan’s Birthday what a perfect excuse to start his Birthday celebrations early.
Morrisons also started a new campaign before the Bank Holiday this is what they had to say
This is the start of a new cheaper Morrisons.
From today, we’ve cut the prices on over a thousand of your favourite products. Not temporary reductions or supermarket smoke and mirrors, these are new every day low prices on the things you buy every week. So you’ll notice the difference with every shop.
And although we’re cutting prices, we’re not cutting corners. You can check our pricing at www.Morrisons.com/pricecuts.
You’ll still get award-winning meat and fish, still get trained butchers and bakers, still get the best of fresh on Market Street and still get friendly Morrisons service.
Look out for the yellow markers when you shop in store and online at morrisons.com. If it says I’m cheaper you know it’s staying cheaper.
Our Morrisons Shopping Experience
We never normally shop in Morrisons as our local store is nearer my mum’s but I do know that they are trying to build one closer to us and after our days of eating Morrisons food I really hope that happens. So to help us we went prepared with a shopping list to make sure we could find everything we needed.
As soon as we entered the shop Ethan started to have a bit of a meltdown. I can only put this down to the fact that the first part of the shop is the chilled section and he didn’t like something in that area. It could have been the noise of the fridges, the lights or the drop in temperature, anything really. It could have simply been that it is a different shop and one that he isn’t used to, thankfully as we moved down the aisles he calmed down and helped us put the items in the trolley.
Considering we were trying to keep Ethan calm at the start of our shop and also find all the things on our list everything was easy to find. We did notice lots of the I’m Cheaper signs down every aisle and it was nice to know that so many products had been reduced.
We were in Morrisons for less than an hour and they stocked everything we needed, we also picked up some good bargains on the way round. We were ready for our Bank Holiday birthday celebrations.
Our Bank Holiday Birthday Celebrations
Since being pregnant all I have really been able to eat, or wanted to eat is pasta so I decided to include my now famous creamy pasta bake in our family meal.
The ingredients needed for the Creamy Pasta Bake include chorizo, red onions, milk, grated mozzarella and cheddar cheese. The total cost of these items were £4.57.
We also purchased southern fried chicken fillets, cherry tomatoes, garlic bread, an iceberg lettuce, cucumber and silver skin onions. All of the items for our meal came to £13.08, there were seven people celebrating Ethan’s birthday in total which meant our dinner cost £1.86 per person.
No birthday celebration is complete without a birthday cake, so we purchased Ethan the giant Jaffa cake. The cake cost £5.99.
Our verdict on our Bank Holiday meal: Everyone enjoyed the meal I prepared for them. I did notice a taste difference with the cheese, and the garlic bread was different from the one we normally buy but being pregnant at the moment I think I’m very sensitive to the taste of things. It wasn’t enough to spoil the meal in anyway it is just what I noticed from our normal supermarket shop. The cake went down very well!
Our Other Morrisons Meals
Pesto Pitta’s
I had wanted these pesto pitta’s for a while so I purchased the ingredients in our shop. I needed wholemeal pittas, salad tomatoes, grated cheese and green pesto. The total for these items came to £4.59. I made this lunch last me for these days so it cost me £1.53 per day.
Steak and Salad
As the baby needs me to have lots of iron at the moment I decided to try the steak that the Morrisons butchers sell. I never really enjoy steak so I knew this would put Morrisons to the test. We purchased the following ingredients for our meal, a seasonal four leaf salad, schwartz grill mates for seasoning and sirloin steak. The total for these items came to £9.03, making the meal cost £4.51 each.
Popeye Pasta
This is a favourite of ours and one that I try to tell myself is good for us, whilst ignoring the cheese used to make it! We had pasta left over from our Bank Holiday meal but we purchased the following ingredients for the sauce, Philadelphia, spinach and Swiss Gruyere. The total for these items come to £6.63. This meal is for all three of us and we can split it over two nights so the total cost per head come to £1.10 each for the sauce.
Our verdict on our Morrisons meals: The pesto pitta’s tasted exactly as I have made them before so all was great on the taste front. The steak was absolutely amazing, best I have ever had. Well the best I have ever cooked myself, I would quite happily eat this meal every week.
The spinach we purchased for our Popeye pasta sauce I actually used on its best before date and was still in perfect condition. I have used it like this from other stores and you can always tell it is on it’s use by date. The sauce actually tasted better too.
Overall we were very happy with our Morrisons shop and would happily shop there again. I was able to get all the items I wanted, even the schwartz grill mates, which I’m sure we would have problems finding.
Thank you Morrisons and BritMums for letting us take part in the challenge and trying a different shopping experience.
