Whilst looking for items to include in my Valentine’s Day gift guide I was contacted by Red Letter Days. Red Letter Days allow you to give the gift of unforgettable experiences. They asked us to choose an experience to review and we decided to have an early Valentines Day treat of afternoon tea at Wivenhoe House.
Wivenhoe House is a beautiful hotel just minutes from Colchester town. Yet it is surrounded by glorious parkland. Wivenhoe House is an eighteenth-century Grade II listed building. Giving you the chance to combine history with the comforts of contemporary living.
Wivenhoe House has a brasserie and bar that is open every day serving lunch and dinner. In its elegant lounges of the main building, you can be served afternoon tea at Wivenhoe House
Our Red Letter Days Voucher
It didn’t take long for our Red Letter Day’s chosen experience voucher to arrive in the post. The voucher does actually arrive in a red envelope. This visually shows you that this isn’t just a normal letter.
Booking our Red Letter Days experience was very easy. The voucher gives you the full instructions on how to book. I just had to call Wivenhoe House. Give them my voucher code and my experience was booked.
On our visit to Wivenhoe House, I took my voucher. They took this on arrival and that was it. Our afternoon tea at Wivenhoe House was fully paid for with that voucher exchange.
Afternoon Tea At Wivenhoe House
I have been aware of the existence of Wivenhoe House for a while now. It is just somewhere we have never needed to visit before. Although we do quite enjoy an afternoon tea trip! I was very excited that Red Letter Days gave us the perfect excuse to visit.
Our afternoon tea was served to us in one of the beautiful lounges situated in the main hotel. If my memory serves me correctly the lounge used to be the music room for the house.

Our Wivenhoe House Afternoon Tea Experience
We were very lucky as we were the only people booked in for afternoon tea when we visited Wivenhoe House. This could have been down to the weather, the snow had hit the country the night before. It could have also been because we had booked the early sitting.
Our afternoon tea was hosted by an amazing man called Thomas. He spent ages talking to us about the history of Wivenhoe House. As well as the history of tea and afternoon tea. It made for an amazing afternoon tea experience.
The afternoon tea itself tasted amazing. And was so filling. Thomas knew when we had had our fill and boxed up the reaming treats to take home. A video of our time at Wivenhoe House is below…
