7 Tips For Planning Your Dream Wedding Day

With the mention of the words Dream Wedding I’m sure everyone, well most people, can picture how they would like their dream wedding to play out.

7 tips for planning your dream wedding day

For me as a little girl I could always picture a wedding dress and a tiara. I knew I didn’t want to get married in a church but that was as far as my wedding ideas went. That all changed in 1996 with a trip to Walt Disney World when I was sixteen. As the Ferry Boat transported us across the Seven Seas Lagoon to the Magic Kingdom they pointed out the newly constructed Wedding Pavilion. It was at that point I knew that my Dream Wedding would have to take place at Walt Disney World.

When you mention Disney and Wedding in the same sentence it can be hard for people to take you seriously. I have lost count of the amount of times I was asked if Mickey Mouse would marry you. I didn’t let other people’s onions change my dreams. Twelve years later having found the person I wanted to marry and convincing our family to join us my Dream Wedding took place. It really was one of the best days of my life.

Planning Your Dream Wedding

Wedding days are a big investment and can take lots of planning, not to mention the costs. We had the added hurdle of planning an overseas wedding. The internet was our greatest resource. I used wedding forums, Disney forums and I also found confetti.co.uk a great resource. With the evolution of FaceBook I’m sure you would also find great groups for help with advice and planning. Below are my 7 tips for planning your dream wedding.

  1. Follow your dreams, its your day – When we started talking about and planning our wedding day our day started to turn into a day that everyone else wanted. Without meaning to, other people can put expectations on your wedding day. It can turn into a bit of a minefield but remember it’s your day and your dream wedding.
  2. Guest numbers aren’t important – Planning a wedding day doesn’t have to mean that hundreds of people have to be invited. Invite who you want to celebrate your day with you. It can be two people or five hundred and two, as long as you have the guests there that are important to you.
  3. Budget – have a clear budget and stick to it. No one needs the added pressure of debt at the start of a marriage. You will be able to find ways to cut costs. Making your own table decorations and favours is a good place to start. Confetti.co.uk has a great shop for all things wedding related. You can spend hours looking on there.
  4. Wedding Insurance – Having insurance gives you a safety net if anything goes wrong. There are many different options available for insurance. We had insurance for our wedding abroad that thankfully we never had to use. It did give us piece of mind.
  5. Don’t Underestimate The Power of Film – A photographer is always a must at a wedding. They are probably one of the first things booked. I saw having our wedding filmed as a luxury expense that could be removed to cut costs. In the end we decided that it was an important part of capturing our wedding memoires. It was one of the best decisions we ever made. We watch our wedding film every year on our wedding anniversary. It is lovely to share our wedding day with our children this way too.
  6. Don’t Stress About The Small Things Going Wrong – On your day so much planning has to come together. This might mean that some things don’t go to plan. Unless it’s a major day stopping event don’t let the small things stress you out.
  7. Enjoy Your Day – it’s a day you may have been planning and saving for for years. It will go by in a flash. Enjoy and remember every moment it will pass by so quickly. It’s important to have fun at your own Dream Wedding.
