Our Overnight Stay At The LEGOLAND Windsor Hotel

Before the pandemic, we would stay at the LEGOLAND Windsor Hotel every year. It was normally a birthday treat for Ethan but we also stayed for Halloween and firework celebrations. This year Little E celebrated her ninth birthday. Her birthday request was to stay at the LEGOLAND Windsor Hotel. She was too young to remember our last stay at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel. Her birthday wish was to remember a stay there.

Booking A Stay At The LEGOLAND Windsor Hotel

Staying at the LEGOLAND Windsor Hotel can be quite an expensive treat. The hotel fully immerses you into the world of Lego with its full theming. Knowing that Little E’s request was to stay there I looked into buying Merlin annual passes. A Merlin annual pass gives you access to the Merlin Holiday Club. This can give you up to a 20% discount on hotel stays. We brought a silver pass which has already paid for itself by just visiting the Merlin attractions in London.

The rooms at the hotel have different themes and they also have premium versions of the rooms. The main themes are Pirate rooms, Adventure rooms and Kingdom rooms. If you book a premium room this means that the theming you find in the children’s area of the room continues into the main part of the room. The normal themed rooms contain more subtle theming in the main part of the room. The Ninjago and Friends rooms are also fully themed and therefore considered a premium room. Premium rooms obliviously come at a more premium cost.

To book our stay at the LEGOLAND Windsor Hotel I booked a themed room through the Merlin holiday club. This didn’t include theme park tickets as we used our annual passes to enter the theme park. Our overnight stay did include breakfast. It cost us just over £300 for a one-night stay. Booking a package with tickets included would have cost us just over £600 for one night and two days in the theme parks. We brought our silver annual passes when there was a sale offer for just over £300 and have already had five days out and a stay at Alton Towers with them so far this year.

Which Room Did We Book?

As it was Little E’s birthday treat she picked the room she wanted us to stay in. She chose a Kingdom room. We love this choice as the Kingdom rooms are on the same floor as the restaurant and the theme park entrance. This means less time spent waiting for the lift.

The kingdom rooms are perfect for children who love Lego knights, wizards and castles. The rooms have a similar theme to the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel.

Little E loved the theming in the children’s area of the room. We completed the treasure hunt, which did take some time, and she was very happy with the rewards she found when we opened the safe.

Eating At The LEGOLAND Windsor Hotel

On this trip, we actually ate all of our meals in the hotel, including our lunch on both days. Breakfast is included in the price of your stay and eating onsite is the expensive option but I was pleasantly surprised with all of our meals. Things have changed since the hotel originally opened, possibly because of the pandemic but I actually preferred it. Having a Merlin annual pass also gives you discounts on food and merchandise.

Lunch at the Skyline Bar

We actually arrived at the hotel during a thunderstorm. So our first stop was lunch at the Skyline Bar whilst we waited for the storm to pass. This was the perfect choice for us as Ethan was able to have a burger, Little E a Pizza and we shared a pizza and some sides. The meal came to just under £50 with the discount applied. We were happy with that as burger meals for all of us in the theme park can easily cost the same.

Dinner at Bricks Restaurant

Bricks restaurant used to be an all-you-can-eat buffet. Now it is still a fixed price to eat there but has a set menu to choose from. The adult cost was £27.99 for three courses and £22.99 for the children. I knew eating at the onsite hotel would be expensive, but I didn’t think the pricing was too bad compared to other restaurants we have eaten at recently.

We really enjoyed our dinner at Bricks. I had the Ceasar Salad and Butter Chicken Masala.

Darren had the BBQ Pulled Beef Bao Buns and the Buttermilk Chicken Burger.

I’m not sure what age the children’s menu is set at but both children picked their meals from it. Little E had Crudités and Hummus to start whilst Ethan had Hot Dog Sausage Roll Bites. They both had Spaghetti and Meatballs for their main.

Desserts were our favourites Chocolate Brownies and New York Cheesecake.

Having eaten at Bricks quite a few times now I really liked the change from being a buffet restaurant. It made our meal so much more relaxed. Buffets are good with children but it is also nice not having to juggle the children and getting your food. We all thought our food was really lovely too and the menu had quite a lot of options on it.

Breakfast at Bricks Restaurant

The breakfast included with your stay has also changed at Brricks. This used to be an all-you-can-eat buffet but has changed to ordering from a menu. I like buffet breakfasts as this helps us fill the children up at the start of a busy day. I was worried we would be limited in what they could eat. But I was pleasantly surprised at the options.

Both Darren and I ordered a full English breakfast.

The children wanted pancakes with everything on the side as well as the continental option. The continental breakfast came in its own basket and included the children’s choice of cereal and milk.

It was nice not having to juggle the buffet lines and children but I did miss the option of helping myself to another cup of tea when I wanted it. I’m sure the waiting staff would have given us more but I didn’t want to interrupt them.

Swimming At The LEGOLAND Windsor Hotel

There is a swimming pool and pirate splash area in the hotel. It isn’t the biggest pool complex but perfect for anyone who loves the water. You have to book a swimming slot which gives you an hour in the pool. We have only ever swum at the hotel once before. I wanted to book this time to make the stay as memorable as possible for Little E. We booked our time for two hours after our dinner reservation. Unfortunately, they wanted to close the pool earlier on the day we stayed. This meant our reservation was pulled forward by thirty minutes. I felt this made us rush to eat our dinner a bit. It would have been better for us to switch them both around. We made it in time, and the children enjoyed their time in the pool with us.

Early Entry into LEGOLAND Windsor

Staying at the LEGOLAND Windsor Hotel gives you thirty minutes early entry into the theme park. The only rides open during our stay were Coastguard HQ and the LEGO City Driving School. This gives you an advantage on your day as these rides normally have the longest queue. We started our second day in the park driving the boats.

We also took advantage of the early start by booking our slot on Flight of the Sky Lion using Ethan’s ride-access pass.

Did We Enjoy Our Overnight Stay At The LEGOLAND Windsor Hotel?

It was nice to stay at the hotel again. It meant our trip to LEGOLAND Windsor felt more relaxing as we could pace ourselves over our two-day visit. I’m glad we got time in the swimming pool with the children. If we were to stay again I would book the swimming slot a bit earlier and have a later dinner.

I do think that this will be our last overnight stay at LEGOLAND Windsor as we want to explore new places. But I’m glad we got to experience it again as a family. I would have liked to have experienced a Santa sleepover but I think our children are a little old for that experience now.

  1. The kid in me would love to stay at Legoland. It is crazy expensive but it does sound worth it as a big treat. The Kingdom room looks amazing! The food sounds reasonably priced, at our local pub a 3 course meal costs around £30. lol It looks like you got a decent amount too.
What a great stay you had. x
