Word Of The Week – Preparation

This week our word of the week is preparation. This is because the countdown to Ethan officially starting school has begun. For me, it’s both a very nervous and exciting time.

preparation

Exciting because we were able to get him a place in a special school. I fought very hard to get him a place at his school. Ethan had to have numerous appointments and I had to fill in lots of paperwork. I’m nervous because I’m hoping it is the correct choice for him. I know other parents like to start their children in a mainstream setting. That choice just didn’t feel right for Ethan.

So after watching all of his peers start school in September it’s finally our turn!

This week I have been ordering Ethan’s school uniform, looking at school shoes, thinking about PE kits and anything else we might need. It’s also making me feel a little sad as it means my little boy is growing up. He is starting the next stage of his life.

Yesterday was an exciting day in our preparation as we all got to visit the school and Ethan’s new class. Ethan was very nervous when he arrived and his anxiety about other children kicked in right away. Thankfully the discovery of the school’s sensory room helped a little bit. He also liked all of the footballs they had in the playground. He didn’t really follow the structure of the day and I think they will need to work on that, but we got the impression he felt quite comfortable. We will be working on our preparation for a few weeks yet but we are happy with the positive start.

All the very best for the big start Jane! Ethan’s school sounds fab and you’ll know pretty early on if it was the right choice xx

  2. It’s always a worry when they start school 🙂 my son goes to High School in September and I have no idea how he’ll react to that!

When my son started school, the time we spent together is lesser and on some days I miss him so much. I would look at his photos just so I can go ahead with my day.

So I suggest you spend all your time with him till he start school. Goodluck on September =) #wotw
