This morning we took Ethan into Colchester to start the Stand Tall Trail.
What is Stand Tall I hear you ask? Well as part of their 50th birthday celebrations Colchester Zoo have placed one 7.5 metre high, twenty nine 2.5 metre high and eighty 1.3 meter high giraffes around Colchester’s streets, parks and open spaces, as well as other locations around Essex. They have created the Stand Tall app so that you can search for the giraffe’s and scan their QR codes as you find them. At the end of the summer the giraffe’s will be auctioned off to raise money for charity.
There are two types of giraffe to find. Art giraffe’s, the 2.5 metre high ones, that have been created by artists and the 1.3 meter high giraffe’s that have been decorated by local schools. Today we decided to start searching for the art giraffe’s, this is the order that we found them.
Jamboree
He was located in McDonalds.
Animal Mineral
He was located in the park just near the kids playground, we showed him to Ethan and asked him what colour he is. Ethan said yellow but to be honest he called them all yellow. We think this maybe because he has a giraffe in his duplo set and we say that it is yellow! Ethan even got to play on the swings before we continued our search.
Nursery Rhyme
He was located outside the park and we told Ethan he was blue. Ethan had lots of fun with this giraffe.
Twinkle
He was located outside the Natural History Museum, a place we had never been to before so we had a quick look around.
Maasai Giraffe
He was located in the High Street and Ethan happily pointed out his yellow to us.
African Patchwork
He was located in Marks & Spencers, another great giraffe that Ethan could use to show us yellow.
You’re Having a Giraffe
He was located on the High Street but because it was starting to get busy and there were lots of people also looking for the giraffe’s we decided to put Ethan in his buggy for the rest of the trail.
Tuxedo G I Raffe
He was also located on the High Street.
Jungle Jenny
She was located in Williams and Griffin on the third floor so we got to look around the shop, something we have never done before.
Precious
He was also located on the High Street.
Tuiste
He was located in Lion Walk, can you tell Darren took this photo!
Womb with a View
She was located at Victoria Place, Darren got a little better at taking the photo’s this time!
Stick Your Neck Out
He was located at Firstsite a place we had never visited.
We found 13 of the giraffe’s today and really enjoyed it. We saw parts of Colchester that we hadn’t seen before, we hope to find more and also look for giraffe’s on the school trail.
Thats cool and different. the giraffes are pretty awesome. hope ethan enjoyed the hunt. I love excuses to explore new places.
What a fantastic thing for the Zoo to do, well done for spotting so many in one day! They are gorgeous and so much fun for both children and adults to find. I’d be interested to know what the 7.5 metre high giraffe looks like, they really are fab. Thanks for sharing your giraffe hunt with Country Kids.
those giraffes look so cool, like the elephants that were all over London one year. Love that they are all different patterns
