Gaining an ASA Duckling Award 2

This term it has been mostly Darren that has taken Little E to her swimming lessons. I like that they get this time together and he is more confident in the water than me. I think being confident in the water with a learner is very important. Little E also loves to make big splashes in the water. I hate getting water in my eyes! This term Little E gained her ASA Duckling Award 2. Little E loves getting certificates but I was able to get a photo of this one much sooner than I did of her ASA Duckling Award 1. Little E has gained so much confidence in…

    Swimming 50 Metres Independently

Ethan’s swimming journey has been quite a long one. We have been taking him to swimming regularly since he was two years old. This has been with mother and baby lessons, and then moving him on to a special needs swimming club. He has also had lessons at school and little by little he has started to swim independently without armbands or woggles. In June last year Ethan proved that he could swim a width of the pool and was awarded his 10 metre certificate. Before Christmas he added even more to his swimming achievements. Ethan gained a certificate for swimming 50 metres. I am so proud of our little…

Gaining an ASA Duckling Award 1

I have been taking Little E to swimming lessons since Ethan started school. With Darren’s shift patterns we have been able to take it in turns to go into the water with her. At the end of last term, before the summer holidays Little E was awarded her ASA Duckling Award 1. Last Easter Little E moved from the small teaching pool to the bigger swimming pool. She was the youngest in the class and although she had outgrown the baby group, I wondered if she was ready for this bigger group. When she first started the lessons she wasn’t listening to the teachers instructions and became afraid of the…

    Ethan’s Swimming Certificate – 10 Metres

Ethan has been swimming without support when I have been helping him at his school swimming lessons. We have managed a few widths but Ethan is still unaware that he is doing so well. We made his swimming club aware and they have been working with him slowly to build his confidence. He has been doing so well that on the last lesson of term he gained his 10 Metre swimming certificate. I attended Ethan’s swimming lesson that day and I watched as his helper pushed him to swim without any support. She slowly worked on his distance by being just an arms reach away from him. She then tried…

    Swimming Widths At School

This term I was invited to join Ethan’s school to help him with his swimming lessons again. Last term I really felt Ethan made progress with his swimming during these lessons. I have been hoping to push Ethan a little more during these lessons and before his half term holiday he actually swam a width of the pool without any support. It was done under lots of protest and with lots of screaming but Ethan proved to me that he can swim unaided. The thing is we just have to make him aware that he can do it. Yesterday was our first time back in the swimming pool together after…
