Breakfast with Santa at Colchester Zoo also gives you admission into the zoo for the day. We didn’t want to spend the whole day visiting Colchester Zoo as Ethan wasn’t 100%. So we decided to take him to see the sea lions. We worked out the water-based animals are Ethan’s favourite during his first birthday visit.
On route, we stopped and said hello to the penguins. Ethan did lots of babbling whilst watching the penguins. He worked out that his voice was echoing so he did quite a lot of shouting! This was an amazing experience for us as it was the first sound we had heard from him.
In this area there were also some fish that Ethan could say hello to.
We then made our way to the sea lions. Ethan can watch these for hours and we love to watch Ethan’s face light up when he sees them. They are a real highlight when visiting Colchester Zoo.
We then decided to see the orangutan’s as their enclosure is attached to the sea lions. I’m glad we did as they are normally hiding but one of them wanted to say hello today. It was great to see him up close. Ethan rarely pays attention to animals that don’t live in water. He paid lots of attention this time and quite happily waved to the orangutan. Ethan has really picked up on waving at the moment which is fantastic. It made us laugh that he decided the orangutan deserved a wave.
I was able to film this lovely moment of waving. You can watch Ethan in the video below.
We had a lovely morning at Colchester Zoo. It was a good choice to visit Santa there. We can’t wait to visit again, hopefully, this time in the summer!
