Word Of The Week – School

This week our word of the week is

School

When we arrived back from our holiday we had our letter from the council about school admissions. Can you believe it’s now time for us to pick Little E’s school? I say pick her school we put down our preference, like all parents, and then it really is luck of the draw. The process has changed since we last filled in this form for Ethan’s school admission. You now have to pick four schools, for Ethan it was just three.

I know of a few schools that I want to put on our form and visited them through Ethan’s process. Darren on the other hand doesn’t know of any schools in the area. This week we have visited and toured a few of our options, it has been nice to be able to share this experience as a couple. It was also nice not to have the worries we had with Ethan’s process. Not having to track down the School SENCO and grill them with all of your concerns. It is a very strange feeling though. It feels like we have to wrap Ethan in cotton wool to make sure he gets the support he needs. With Little E it feels like we are saying, off you go you will be fine.

We are having to address the issue that we will have two children attending two different schools. Logistically this will be a nightmare. We are also having to explain to Little E that she will be going to a different school from her brother. This did upset her at first. It also did upset me which I wasn’t expecting. I thought I would have to explain that Ethan learns differently but thankfully that explanation wasn’t required just yet. In April we will be able to tell her which school she will be attending.

  1. The time for the second one to go to school does creep on you, doesn’t it? My two go to the same school, so it was an easy decision and process for my son. I’m sure Little E will be fine once she gets them, though yes, I can see the logistics could be difficult each day for you. Hope you get your first choice x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

  2. I think it’s always an emotional time when your little one is off to school for the first time, without the other things to think about. Two different schools can be a pain, but I’m sure you’ll find a way x

  4. mummy here and here

Awww sorry to hear that they were upset, but being honest has always been helpful with trying to help children understand. I have to apply for my youngest this year as he is going to start big school in September and she cannot wait to start X #wotw

  5. How, how can Little E be starting school? I remember you being pregnant with her which doesn’t seem that long ago….
It must be such a different experience choosing a school for your girl…Good luck! I hope you get the school of your choice x

  6. I felt a bit like that when Madam started school “Off you go Bye!” it is a completely different experience sending a child to mainstream as opposed to SEN, but she will love it I’m sure!

  7. We’ve just done the application process for Sophie to go to school too. It is crazy how fast it comes around! I can relate to the different experience too. I’m hoping that our girls will both go to the same school but it will be very different not having to add extra pages to the medical information and put support plans in place. As you say, it is like saying “off you go, you will be fine” Hope you manage to get the school you want for Little E x #WotW
